Michael Eugene Shufeldt
November 12, 1997 – September 25, 2024

Born on November 12, 1997, he came into this world already carrying the quiet strength and steady heart that would define his life. As the only son of Chuck Shufeldt and Susan Shufeldt, he was cherished deeply by his parents and surrounded by the unwavering devotion of his aunt, grandmother, and grandfather. From the very beginning, he was rooted in love, protection, and family.
At just three years old, he caught his first fish with his dad, a simple but defining moment that would shape the course of his life. What began as a childhood memory became a calling. The water became his peace. Fishing became his craft. And over the years, that little boy grew into a skilled and respected fisherman who perfected his trade with patience, discipline, and grit.
Beyond fishing, Michael also loved hunting. It was never a profession, but a passion. Time spent in the outdoors, in quiet patience and deep respect for nature, was where he felt most grounded and alive.
Growing up, he built friendships that ran deeper than surface level, the kind of bonds that turn friends into family. Loyalty has always been second nature to him. If you were in his circle, you were protected, valued, and never alone.
At 15, he met the love of his life, Nicole. What began as young love grew into a partnership built on history, growth, and unwavering commitment. Together, they built a life and a beautiful family home in Woodland, a place filled with laughter, muddy boots by the door, early mornings on the water, and memories that will last generations.
Right after high school, he stepped boldly into his purpose, becoming a professional fishing guide. Not long after, he founded Reel Deal Adventures, pouring his heart into building something of his own. He did not just guide fishing trips; he created experiences. He taught patience, grit, and respect for the water. He became a mentor to many, a leader on the river, and a provider for his family.
But beyond the business, beyond the skill, beyond the reputation, he was a loving father. The kind who showed up. The kind who taught by example. The kind who made his children feel safe and proud.
He will be survived by his loving parents, Chuck Shufeldt and Susan Shufeldt; his two children, Avery Shufeldt and Hunter Shufeldt, who will carry his strength, his love for the outdoors, and his legacy forward; and his devoted wife, Nicole Shufeldt, the girl he met at 15, the woman who stood beside him through every season, and the keeper of the life and love they built together. His life was anchored in love, for family, for friendship, for the river, and for the people blessed to walk beside him. His legacy will live on in every sunrise, every cast, and in the hearts of those who loved him most.
The Washington State Guides Association executive board unanimously voted to honor Michael with a posthumous perpetual membership to the Washington State Guides Association.
