Our members are properly licensed fishing guides and/or charter operators. Guides and charter operators are critical for Washington state sport fisheries.
There are countless visitors to Washington state each year. Many of these visitors use fishing guides and charter operators to access our many waterways.
Any fishing guide or charter operator who operates in the saltwater will always be operated by a USCG licensed captain. Many fishing guides who only operate on freshwater (rivers & lakes) are also are USCG licensed captains. Charter captains and river guides may also hold a USCG master’s license. Those required to have a USCG Captains license operate in “Federal Navigable Waters”, as defined by the US Coast Guard. There are fishing guides in Washington state, who operate in waters, which are not considered “Navigable.” In this case, the guide is not required to hold a USCG license. Nonetheless, these guides are required to maintain proper state licensing, insurance and sometimes other state mandated license requirements.
